On February 15, 1933 Franklin Roosevelt became the first President-elect ever targeted for assassination. While Roosevelt was speaking in Miami, Florida, an anarchist by the name of Giuseppe Zangara fired six shots at the podium. Four men were injured, and Mayor Anton J. Cermak of Chicago was killed, but President-elect Roosevelt escaped unharmed. Zangara was executed on March 30 of that year.
